Have to say that we were delighted with the attitude, application and the ability to follow instruction of the UL team but most of all we are delighted with the end product. Well done to all involved.

We are very pleased with the video that you guys produced. Golf Club managers around the country have viewed the video and the feedback has been very positive. The message is clear and very effective.

Your approach has been very professional in delivering the finished product. You have surpassed our expectations with the final production well ahead of schedule.

We are delighted that you were able to adapt to our requirements and assist us with the additional voice over editing.

I would recommend Killian, Tara & Denis to my business colleagues and would like to work with them again in the future.

Sláinte

4th Year, Multimedia Industry Perspectives, Group Project

Business Ideas:

We came up with five different business models to start with – the ‘UL Dating App’, the ‘Going Out App’, ‘UL Student Job Seeker’ website, ‘What Room?’ app and the ‘Student Swap Shop’ website. Having listed the pros and cons individually it was quite clear to us that the ‘Going Out’ app had the most potential out of the five to make money.

‘Sláinte’ Going Out Application – Business Model Canvas (BMC):

My roles for this assignment consisted of doing up the Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats of each of the five ideas to choose the best product idea. Following this I created the final BMC for ‘Sláinte’ [pictured below] and created the group presentation.

The idea of the ‘Sláinte’ application is to allow users to travel to a location they have never been to before and see what the nightlife is like around. As an example, for two people organising a night out in Limerick, they can use the app to see if there are any student near by hosting a party you can join. When matched on the app and put in contact with the party thrower, the users can then check out what promotions the night clubs and pubs in town are offering for the party. The app users can then avail of what venue has the best promotions and can organise entry and free drinks for the party.

As a Digital Media Design student I am open to a wide variety of collaboration tools that allow me to more effectively interact with group members, display previous projects online, pass on assignments and manage work flow. Examples of the tools I find most useful are Google Docs, WordPress, Yahoo Mail, Microsoft Office 365, Facebook Messenger, Twitter, Microsoft Office and YouTube.

The collaboration tools I use the most are Facebook Messenger and WordPress.

Facebook Messenger

The introduction of Facebook Messenger has created an ability to allow users to privately interact among each other, or even hold group discussions. Not only can users avail of this instant messaging service on their computers, laptops and tablets, but they can also download it as a free application for on the go access through any IPhone or Android.

Having  Messenger gives me a huge advantage for staying on top of my work load. With the Messenger App on my smartphone it allows me to remain online and contactable throughout the day for important messages, or when arranging meetings with group members. Facebook Messenger requires no additional skills or training to operate and not only can a user IM individual friends, but can create group chats of multiple friends or colleagues in one. Members of a group chat can then re-name each group to organise who is in what group and what the role of the group is.

Golf Voyager

4th Year, Multimedia Industry Perspectives, Group Project

Design a promotion campaign for one of the Nexus-related companies.

Company Description:

For this assignment we were introduced to a list of new start up companies through the University of limericks Nexus center. The company I worked with was Golf Voyager set up in Co. Clare by Fintan Ward and Conor Galvin in 2012.

“Built by golfers for golfers – Golf Voyager is a new concept in Golf Vacations. Build your own vacation or choose from the many predefined packages that are available.”

Golf Voyager is powered by Booking.com and allows users to book all their golf, Hotel and Car Hire packages from selected destinations around the world. In turn the user can save an average of €132 on their following years golf club membership.

Golf Voyager is a new company built by golfers and is based in the Limerick Institute of Technology. Their target market is aimed at golfers who enjoy golf vacations for work and/or leisure and offer a range of courses in Ireland, Spain, the UK, Thailand, Portugal, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates.

Campaign Brief:

From the first day we met with Golf Voyager they informed us they planned on officially launching their website online in just nine days time. Before they launched their website they wanted us to create a 30 – 45 second animation video detailing why to use www.GolfVoyager.com. This video will then be emailed to golf club members by their golf club manager and virally through Facebook.

With their two main competitors being ‘Your Golf Travel’ and ‘My Golf Society’ Conor and Fintan wanted their video to emphasis why they were better. The main points they gave us to work off were;

1) User friendly and easy to use.

2) Users can pick any package, or create their own golf trip online.

3) They are the only site who give the best deal and commission back on your following years golf membership.

4) Pay a small deposit online, and the balance on arrival.

5) Emphasis the site is powered by Booking.com.

Y4. Ideal Job

4th Year, Multimedia Industry Perspectives, Individual Project

Creative Design within an Advertising Department.

My ideal job upon graduating would be to get into the creative idea department of an advertising agency. The creative idea section of any advertising agency is responsible for developing and producing an advert. This includes coming up with the commercial ideas, layouts for print ads and television storyboards, developing visual concepts and designs, overseeing photo sessions and the filming of television commercials used in an ad.

Like every one else growing up  I went through an array of various possible career choices weighing up the pro’s and con’s depending on my abilities. Being influenced by ohers these  ranged from several career prospects such as becoming a Pastry Chef, working in Sports Science and joining the Army,  to being involved in filming and editing or working in the Creative Department for an advertising firm.

Now in my fourth year of studying Digital Media Design I have been introduced to various design modules (Industrial Design, Design Visualisation, Product Design and Modelling and Audio and Video Production) where I learnt how to use such programs as SolidWorks, Adobes’ Photoshop, Flash, Illustrator, After Affects and Final Cut Pro mixed with other such modules as Sociology of Media, Introduction to Digital Media, Multimedia Industry Perspectives, Information Society and Directed study. All of these modules have provided me with the required fundamentals to work in the creative idea planning within Advertising.

Task:

You are required to re-engineer the requirements for the http://www.protectourwater.ie registration system and specify them as a product-level requirements according to either:

A) the IEEE STD 830, or

B) the Volere template.

Study the information available at the website mentioned above and focus on the online registration system. In addition to the inputs to the registration system, you will need to make some assumptions about the requirements for the outputs from the system, such as a list of installations to be inspected. Particular attention must be paid to the data requirements and to the quality requirements, especially security, including the authorization of users.

Brief:

a. Clearly capture the genesis and development of your thinking process in a sequence of hand sketches/photos, the images of which can then be imported into SolidWorks for sketching.

b. Detailed design of the powered steam cleaner parts, mated sub-assemblies and overall mated steam cleaner assembly.

c. Create cutaway and transparent configurations of the assembled powered steam cleaner to show its internal detailing.
