Brief:

In this module we will explore the history of design with a multi-faceted approach. Our approaches will involve an exploration of twentieth century design, an emphasis on product design and an examination of materials inherent in the process of design. We will look at events, designers and influences governing production and products. Our themes will range from Art Nouveau, Art Deco, The Glasgow school, Bahaus, Werkbund, American money, Pop-art, and finally to Post-modernism.

Students will learn:
• How to evaluate the influence of design
• Applications of Victorian design
• Chronological knowledge of Twentieth century designers
• How to evaluate Architects and their influences in the twentieth century
• Understanding the importance of materials in product design
• To critically analyse prototype designs
• An assessment of ideological influences in relation to politics, economics and historical events.

Stage 1:

Here we we’re given the task to produce a basic HTML link page with 5 of our favourite album titles by various artists. Once each name was clicked on, it would direct us to the music artist and their album name, followed by the track listings, and a YouTube video of our favourite song at the bottom of the page.

Stage 2:
Project Specifications

Computer Aided Learning (or E-Learning) was just one of a list of topics we could choose from to research as part of a group assignment.

The Brief:
In this project we were required to use a number of different research methods and techniques for the specification and design or an interactive system which will enhance the awareness of the environmental issues on campus.

We had to identify an issue of concern and undergo study relevant to this problem. We collected data from all of our research and study and analysed them.

Brief:

We can’t live without music; no matter what we are doing we like to have some variation of music playing in our ears. It has the power to sooth, invigorate, regulate, inspire but it also can cause us to spontaneously sing or dance. It is a powerful contributor to the quality of life regardless of our own ability to make music.Whether you are musical or not you have an affinity of the medium and now you have the opportunity of indulge your curiosity and produce an object from which you will generate a range of sound. You will divide into groups of 3 to 4 (depends on the number of students in the class) to experiment and design objects with which you will eventually perform. The initial research and gathering phase will be undertaken as a group but having classified your findings into wind, string or percussion you will each develop your own object (each group member must develop an object from a different classification)

Aims of the Project:

The aim of this project is to enjoy the exploration of noise generation in the company of your peers and to develop a range of instruments that you will be required to play. The project is intended to be both fun and educational and provide you with a final flourish to your first year of Product Design.

Here we had to simplify how people go about everyday activities, whilst still having the luxury of enjoying a cup of coffee.
